15 June 2024: Hon'ble Prime Minister visited the DSP Solar Initiative project site at Dechencholing today.

The DSP Solar Initiative (DSP-SI) in Phase I successfully commissioned a 500 kW ground-mounted solar power plant at Dechencholing (June 9, 2023). In Phase II, 2.1 MW ground-mounted PV system was commissioned on June 1, 2024 at Dechencholing.

40 De-suups are currently engaged under the Project Implementation Unit's (PIU) guidance. Initiated upon Royal Command, this project aims to diversify Bhutan’s energy sources beyond hydropower, leveraging our 12 GW solar potential.

14 June 2024 — His Majesty The King visited the DSP Solar Initiative project site in Dechencholing today.

The DSP Solar Initiative (DSP-SI), in its first phase, successfully commissioned a 250 kW rooftop solar power plant at the Centenary Farmers Market on May 29, 2023, and a 500 kW ground-mounted solar power plant at Dechencholing on June 9, 2023. Funded by the Bhutan Trust Fund for Environmental Conservation (BTFEC), these projects were completed at a benchmark cost of Nu 54,000 per kW capacity.

Phase II includes an additional 2.1 MW ground-mounted PV system at Dechencholing, a 1.5 MW rooftop solar PV system at the Druk Gyalpo’s Institute in Pangbisa, and an expanded 200 kW rooftop solar PV system at the Centenary Farmers Market. The solar project at Dechencholing was test charged and commissioned on June 1, 2024. Currently, 40 De-suups are engaged in the project under the supervision of the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) of the DSP Solar Initiative.

The Project was initiated upon Royal Command with the objective to diversify the country's energy sources beyond hydropower, leveraging Bhutan's 12 GW solar potential. It is chaired by Dasho Bharat Tamang, member of the Privy Council, who has previously served as the MD of Bhutan Power Corporation.

The DSP Solar Initiative aims to enhance Bhutan's energy security, showcase the country's leadership in environmental conservation, prove the technical and economic feasibility of solar power, and encourage its adoption by both public and private sectors. Additionally, it seeks to develop local expertise in the field through the De-suung Skilling Program.

The DSP in 'Carpentry and Woodworks' concluded on June 12, 2024

The DSP in 'Carpentry and Woodworks' concluded on June 12, 2024, after a four-month training program held at Edelweiss Bumthang . The program saw the participation of 15 De-suups and was led by expert trainer Mr. Namgyel Wangdi Maurer.

The closing ceremony was honored by the presence of Dasho Ratna Bdr. Gurung, Dzongdag of Bumthang Dzongkhag, who awarded certificates to the trainees


The DSP in 'Web Development' and 'App Development with Flutter' commenced on 10 June 2024 at the DSP Training centre, Gyalposhing, Mongar

The DSP in 'Web Development' and 'App Development with Flutter' commenced on 10 June 2024 at the DSP Training centre, Gyalposhing, Mongar. 29 De-suups are participating in the Web Development course and 19 De-suups are participating in the App. Development course for duration of 4 months.

Mr. Kamrul Islam is the expert trainer for Web Development and Mehedi Hasan is the expert trainer for App Development. Both the experts are from Learnio.


Exciting News from DSP Fitness Training Centre in Dechencholing, Thimphu!

We're thrilled to announce the commencement of our Muay Thai (Thai boxing) training program, which kicked off today, June 11, 2024!

This special program, part of the Integrated Fitness Training - Intermediate course, runs from June 10 to 18, 2024, and features 46 dedicated De-suups honing their skills. The training is a collaborative effort with The Royal Thai Embassy (RTE) in Dhaka and the Honorary Consulate General of Thailand in Thimphu, Bhutan. Our Muay Thai sessions are led by two esteemed instructors, Mr. Wittawat Kasom and Ms. Patchayaporn Kasom. This initiative not only celebrates the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Bhutan and Thailand but also aims to strengthen people-to-people connections.

Mr. Wittawat Kasom was Thailand’s National Muay Thai Coach in 2021-2022 and owner of Lanna Fighting Muay Thai Camp. Ms. Patchayaporn Kasom has the following titles: Thailand’s Champion of Muay Thai Talent in 2020; World Champion of Wai Kru in IFMA Virtual Competition in 2020 (under 13 years old); Word Champion of Muay Thai Skills in IFMA Virtual Competition in 2020; Thailand’s Champion of Muay Thai Talent in 2021 (under 15 years old); Thailand’s Champion of Muay Thai Artistic Battle in the National Youth Games in 2022 and World Champion of Wai Kru in IFMA Muay Thai Youth Work Championship in Malaysia in 2022.

Zimpon Wom Sonam Thinley, a member of the DSP Steering Committee, was the Chief Guest at the opening ceremony. We also welcomed Mr. Panupan Chotirangsiyakun, Counsellor from the Royal Thai Embassy in Dhaka, along with officials from the Honorary Consulate General of Thailand in Thimphu.

Drup_ge (Sword & Blade Crafts De-suups) won Nu 500,000

Drup_ge (Sword & Blade Crafts De-suups) won Nu 500,000 to upscale their business after winning at the Springboard Plus Programme (SBPP) 2024. Drup_ge triumphed among 18 startups to win the first prize. The De-suups were trained in Sword and blade crafts by DSP and are now operating and managing the DSP Forge workshop at Taba, Thimphu.

DreamTales Animation Studio won an amount of Nu 300,000 to upscale their business after securing the 3rd position at the Springboard Plus Programme (SBPP) 2024. De-suups who have established DreamTales Animation were trained in Animation and Filmmaking by DSP for a period of 1 year under the trainer, Mr. Nelson, and are now operating at Cheogo Business Center. Currently, they deal with 3D logo motions, business and product advertisements, and graphic design.

The SBPP programme is spearheaded by the Department of Employment and Entrepreneurship in collaboration with UNDP Bhutan and Loden Foundation.

DSP in 'Web Development course' concluded on 05 June 2024. 18 De-suups participated in the program for duration of 3 months at the DSP Training Centre, Phaduna, Punakha. Ms. Joanna Koh from Singapore was the Expert Trainer.

The trainees have successfully acquired proficiency in HTML, CSS, and web design principles, culminating in the development of their personal websites showcasing their newfound skills.

The trainees as their final projects, revamped the websites for 'Guide Association of Bhutan' & 'Khuru Khuru Hotel Punakha', and created two websites for 'Lotus Camp, Punakha' and 'Bhutan Spa and Wellness Portal'.

Congratulations De-suup trainees and Ms. Joanna for the amazing work done.
